The History Department of Uludağ University- Faculty of Art and Sciences began to give training in bachelor degree in 1990. In 1992, the department get started its postgraduate programs. (Master degree Program, 1992 and PhD program, 2006).
The Purpose of History Department
The purpose of History department on education is to teach historical events which affected the human as a social being by discussing in context of politics, economy, culture and art from antiquity to present. In this respect, there are lessons in academic program teaching search methods and the use of source documents and helping to gain the skills of analyzing and interpreting historical events, too. The department consists of five chairs: the Ancient History, the History of Middle Ages, General Turkish History, Modern History and the History of Turkish Republic.

To raise historians gained the skills of reaching historical information and scientifically interpreting in the dimension of locality and universality.
The Vision of History Department
In the context of History, the primary goal is determined as proceeding being a department which produces scientific knowledge and gives education on an international scale and carries out national and international projects incorporation with other disciplines. In this respect, the field researches are carried out in Bursa and environment containing rich historical material. Using other sources of history, the studies which present objective results are performed. In order to evaluate the results obtained, the Department of History spearheads the organization of national and international scientific meetings in Bursa. In addition, it works with a communication and cooperation with national and international history organizations.
The Main Work Area of the Graduates of the History Department
Formation for Teaching: Since 2009-2010 academic year, Uludag University Faculty of Art and Sciences has the authority to give “Pedagogical Formation Courses Certificate”. Students who achieved to receive the certificate, has the opportunity to become an “history teacher”. If the graduates of the History Department fulfill the conditions stipulated by the Ministry of Education, they can serve as a teacher at public schools, private schools and private educational institutions. In addition, they can become an expert at archives, manuscript libraries and at printing and publishing establishments. Historians that have necessary certificates can also work at the areas of tourism, guidance and advertising. At the same time, having the qualifications prescribed and foreign language skills, graduates may get admission to the master program, begin their academic life as a research assistant or work as a lecturer at the Departments of Ataturk's principles and reform History.
